Shooting Of The Film

Our final shooting of the film has now been made & we are very happy at how it went. We belived that we have used the correct camera angles in the correct places and were able to create effective film. However we had a few problems with filming, we first filmed, however, looking back at the footage we were not satisfied with the quality so we refilmed and improved it.

Our Final Media Piece - Preliminary Stages

We have now been set our final media piece to complete for a deadline of mid March. We have to create opening titles for our won movie, which have to be two minutes long, and no longer. My group which I have chosen to work with is Garry and I. We have a preliminary idea which we look to forward and develop on in the near future and we are currently in the process of making our storyboard, and then making it animatic. The development with ideas and set etc with the project is going well and we are happy.

We have decided to use the genre of Thriller/Mystery. We have chosen this genre because, I believe it is an interesting genre. Our target audience will be young people, as we believe this genre will fit the interests of the young people.

Garry and myself have researched famous films that have the same genre and idea as we do. I researched the film I Am Legend, this film is a mystery film throughout and I believed this was a very good film to base our storyline on. I found that the genre of mystery is fulfilled in the opening scenes, when the main character is driving around New York City, and the city is completely empty. I believe this is a mystery as it makes the viewer wonder what has happened.

We have now just not developed ideas on genre for our project but we have ideas for different editing ideas and camera angles, which we believe will be very beneficial to ensuring we get the full grades possible. We have used different camera angles, for instance at the end of the piece we hope to use a high angle shot which zooms out of thee area. Also we want to use panning shots, tilts and close-ups. Also we will use another vital camera shot to our project which is the point of view camera shot, this means that the audience will See exactly what the character in our film will see. This is effective because the audience can get the point of view of the character and see what he sees. This will be used quite regularly throughout the project.
We are hoping to use quite a few editing techniques, however, we will not include too many so we do not ruin the piece or overload it with editing techniques. We hope to use techniques such as changing eye colour, this will be used when people die in our film, this will be effective because it will distinguish the dead from the living. Another technique we will use is to zoom through a car window, this will be used to zoom in on the dead character in the car and will be effective becuase it gives the effect of going through glass. Lastly, we will use a zoom out at the end of the piece which goes from a close-up of the characters face, zooming out until you see the whole world. This will give the effect that he is the only person left on earth and I believe this will be extremely effective.

So far these are preliminary ideas but we feel that these ideas could be finalised to create a solid piece which will hopefully be interesting and worth watching for the audience.

The Xchange Project

Our first Media project set was a task to film a series of events.
The genre & location of filming was left for our choice, so this meant that the contents of our project were left in our hands.

Our group consisted of 5 people - Emma, Sam, Roo, Garry & I. Each member had a different but equally important role in the success of the piece, and all of the members of the group used input to make the project satisfactory to our needs.
Our storyline was very basic but was appropriate to how far we had progressed in the stages of the course so far. The storyline was that a man, dressed in black, we pacifically chose these colours because it perceives the character as mysterious.
The man then enters from a lift & walks out, with his head down, so he does not identify himself. We then used various camera shots, we used a mis-en-scene to show the corridor the man would be walking down. Then when the man starts walking down the corridor we used a Canted camera angle from a high-angled shot, this effect gave the idea that the view from from a CCTV effect which I believe was extremely useful for the piece to have.
Next was a low angle shot of the man walking towards the camera, this I believe was a good effect used. We then used a close-up of the door handle which the man opens. We edited this part of the clip to emphasise the sound of the door opening so that the viewer knew exactly what is going on.
The clip after was a panning of the room, this is a mis-en-scene effect to show the Boss (Sam) sitting at her table. After was the mid close-up of the man walking to the table and sitting down. We used another editing tool to emphasise the bang when the man slams down his briefcase, we used this to add a dramatic effect to the clip.
We then used a short amount of Dialogue to make the viewer get a better understanding of the storyline. The man sits the down and the Boss says 'have you got it?', the man replies 'of course i have it', this is making the viewer wonder what they are talking about, then the boss continues with 'i knew i could rely on you'. We used a point of view camera view for both caharacters in this scene looking at the other character.
